Online communities are more popular than ever.

I’ve joined free Slack communities. I’ve joined paid communities on Circle and other platforms that offer more exclusivity. I’ve seen what communities do well and what needs improvement.

As I consider creating a community, I understand the challenge. The best communities are engaged and encouraging. The worst communities are disjointed and fade away.

Here’s what I’ve noticed from online communities.

The Best Communities Feel Like an Organic Conversation

The best communities are when members are engaged in the conversation.

If you post something, you should feel encouraged. You should get answers. You should feel part of a warm community that genuinely wants to help you.

I’m part of Jay Clouse’s amazing community, The Lab. It’s a one-year membership that offers Insightful feedback and amazing creator resources. It’s by far the best community I’ve been a part of.

Members are always asking questions. There are content sprints. There are live calls. There are things that help you constantly improve…
