How to Earn Your First $100 as a Freelancer
The steps I take to market my business and book at least five to ten meetings a week.
Freelancing is freedom.
In other words, freelancing allows you to work all day on your business. It’s not margaritas on a beach (I prefer a stout beer).
For the last 7ish years, my experience as a freelance copywriter has been a whirlwind. I’ve had major ups and downs. If there’s anything I’ve learned, you learn the more you keep going.
Having said all that, I’m not here to teach you how to make six figures as a freelancer. I want to teach you how to make $100.
When you do that, your entire freelance business changes.
Get Comfortable Doing the Uncomfortable
I nearly doubled my income as a freelancer when I started doing things outside my comfort zone.
- I did videos on YouTube, LinkedIn, and Instagram
- I shared my copywriting examples every week
- I wrote consistently about my copywriting process
- I sent sales messages that helped me book meetings
What are things that you’re uncomfortable doing? I spent years avoiding things that made me uncomfortable.
I’d say stuff like, “that’s just not my style” or “That’s not I do things.”
The truth is, if you want to make more as a freelancer, you need to get over your fears and learn to do the scary things
Understand the Problem You’re Solving
Freelancers solve problems for specific people. It’s that simple.
For years, I sent cringy cold emails asking people if they needed any help with anything at all. It only made me sound desperate.
The moment I understood the problem I was solving for a specific industry, I found more clients who were willing to pay me more.
Here are some examples;
- Lead generation landing pages for SaaS brands
- Email nurture emails for healthcare brands
