How to Make Writing Fun

When writing is fun, you’re more likely to do it for a long time.

Writing is an adventure.

Not a chore. Not formulaic nonsense.

When you realize that every day is an adventure, you realize the opportunity to write and share those adventures in your writing.

Here’s my checklist for making sure my writing is fun.

Write About Topics That Energize You

Most online writers choose topics that they think will go viral. It’s not necessarily a topic they are interested in.

The end result is burnout or giving up writing about that topic way too soon.

I encourage writers to write about stuff that energizes them. David Perell says to find your obsession and write about it. That obsession is magnetic to your readers. They will gravitate toward it because they see how much you love it.

For example, I love writing about these topics:

• Copywriting
• Online writing
• Business and working for yourself
• Productivity and parenting
• Creativity and a bit of satire
