How to Practice Your Writing
Stop dreaming of becoming a writer. Start making it a reality with actionable steps.
When you practice writing, you practice sharing your ideas.
It’s a scary feeling. We’re afraid of what people will think. They may say it’s terrible. They may hate it.
Every writer feels that way. They’re lying if they say they don’t. Every writer feels that fear, the imposter syndrome creeping behind the door.
There’s only one way to escape that feeling. You must write. And you must do it often.
Start With Small Ideas
The great fear of becoming a writer is that we tend to think big:
- I must write a novel
- I must write 100 blog posts
- I must write 5,000 words a day
These are made-up rules. As a writer, you define the rules. You decide how much to write about whatever it is you want to write.
I like to start with small ideas:
- I will write a page of my novel today
- I will write a Medium article today
- I will write something today to get started
