Social proof will determine your credibility.

It will determine your credibility as a freelancer, a startup, and any other business. Customers want to validate their buying decisions before they make a purchase. They don’t want to feel alone when they decide.

Yet, most people don’t know how to use social proof effectively.

Since I study all things copywriting and marketing, this is what I’ve determined makes the best social proof.

Get specific

Don’t say millions, say 2,356,788 folks have joined Dollar Shave Club.

Customers remember specificity.

CoSchedule does a great job of showing a specific number. I’d argue getting even more specific to increase believability.

Khan Academy tries a different approach. They focus on the outcome, the end journey of a customer, instead of the beginning. Khan Academy could have said, “90% of US teachers use Khan Academy. Instead, they say 90% of US teachers who have…
