How to Write Faster Without Overthinking Everything

A simple trick I learned to help me write faster Medium articles.

I used to spend 4+ hours writing a Medium article.

I’d overthink every sentence and every headline. I’d slog through an article wondering why I spend hours on it.

I did this until I discovered a new way of writing that cut my writing time in half. It helped build a stronger story. And it gave me more confidence to write every day.

Here’s my approach to writing faster.

Write your headlines first

Your headlines are your foundation. They hold your article together like they hold a house together.

Everyone scans your headlines before they decide to read your article. So you want to make sure they are scannable.

For folks who don’t have time to read your article, at least they get a brief understanding of your article by reading the headlines first.

Write the main idea(s) you want to explain in your headline

After you write your headlines, you want to write a few points under the headlines that you want to talk about.
