How to Write More Without Overthinking Everything
Create for yourself.
A few weeks ago, I relocated from California to North Carolina.
With our four kids, my wife and I drove for five days across the United States. From random weird hotels to crazy thunderstorms, we experienced new adventures as a family. And I loved every minute of it.
It also forced me to take a break from my writing. Since I’ve slowed down, I’ve realized how hard it is to speed back up. I’ve had to relearn the basics of building a writing habit.
I’m reminding myself of how to write more without overthinking everything.
I like to do that by giving myself these three reminders.
1. You’re Not a Perfect Writer. You’re a Consistent Writer
I remind myself, especially after a long break, that I’m not a perfect writer. I’m a consistent writer.
I showed up every day on Medium for six months to write about copywriting and writing habits. I’ve done it before. And I can do it again.
It reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:
“I don’t have talent. I just get up earlier.”
