The Power of Writing Something Small
Learn sustainability before anything else.
I gave up on Medium a few years ago because I didn’t know what to say.
I thought I had to write a 5+ minute article every time. I thought good articles had to be long-form, not short-form.
Since then, I’ve changed my approach. And since doing that, I’ve written consistently on LinkedIn and Medium for the past 4 months. I’ve learned the power of saying fewer words.
To be a sustainable writer, learn the power of saying less.
You don’t need to write a lot to get started
The myth is you need to write a lot to get started as a writer.
The power of writing well is writing clearly. And sometimes clear ideas don’t need more words. They need fewer words.
If you’re just getting started as a writer, don’t try to mimic the long-form writers with a lot to say.
You can find your voice by saying something small.
Express an idea before you explain it
Learn to express ideas clearly before you explain them with complexity.
I like to express ideas on Twitter. Then I expand it into a LinkedIn post. And then I put it on Medium.
I see what resonates with people. I learn how to improve my writing — how I can make my writing clearer.
I often have to remind myself that writing clearer (even with fewer words) is more critical than overexplaining myself.
