Why I Don’t Publish In Major Publications
I stopped waiting for someone to give me a chance.
Stop waiting for permission to write.
You don’t need a publication on Medium to tell you that you’re a writer.
When I first wrote on Medium, I’d submit my writing to publications. Some would get accepted. A lot would get rejected. It was discouraging. I wanted validation from publications that I was a good enough writer.
Everything changed 6 months ago. I stopped waiting for publications. I decided to do things myself.
Publications Don’t Define Good Writing
Good writing is subjective.
Some readers will love your writing. Some will hate it. That’s the nature of the game.
Sure, if you submit your piece and it gets accepted to a major piece on Medium, you’ll get a lot of eyeballs reading it. But publications don’t determine how much you can write.
You have to remember this fundamental truth:
Publications can’t stop you from writing.
I didn’t want to wait for publications to grant me permission. I wanted to write. I wanted to publish. I wanted to tell stories.
