Why I’m Scaling Back My Writing

It’s okay to slow down.

For the last seven months, I’ve written a lot on Medium.

I’ve met wonderful people. I’ve built my email list. And I’ve built a habit of writing every day. I challenged myself to write every day. And I achieved that goal.

Along the way, I’ve thought about a few things:

  • Am I giving my content the attention it deserves?
  • Should I scale back to a few days a week?
  • How can I improve the quality of my writing?
  • What’s the overall outcome I want my readers to have when they read something of mine?

These are questions I’m constantly asking. Finding balance as a writer is instrumental to quality work. And after reading a lot of what Michael Thompson has written, I feel inspired to take a different approach.

As I figure out the answer, here are a few things I’m wracking around in my brain.

I Was Trying to Prove I Was a Writer

One of the reasons I wrote every day on Medium was to prove to myself that I was a writer.

I was trying to defeat imposter syndrome by writing every day. I wanted to be known for something. I wanted to accelerate my growth as a creator.
