Why You Don’t Need to Make $10k a Month as a Freelancer

Here’s what you should do instead.

We need to stop this narrative that earning $10k is expected as freelancers.

I see it all over social media. It’s like freelancers are failing if they earn anything less.

Some freelancers make $10k a month, others make $500 a month. But everyone’s journey is different, depending on these major factors:

  • How you market your services
  • What you offer to clients
  • How the market is trending

Instead of making $10k your goal, focus on building a solo business. Here’s how to do that.

Get better at marketing your services

I used to be terrible at marketing my services as a freelancer.

I avoided social media. I sent sporadic cold emails. I applied for freelance jobs when I felt like it. I soon learned that I would never make it as a freelancer if I never marketed myself better.

This is what I learned to do that helped me find clients (even on slow months):

  • Send daily cold emails
  • Apply for freelance jobs
  • Post daily on Twitter & LinkedIn
